here's to the new you

Just imagine the possibilities!

Hypnosis can help with more issues than you might think…

Here are some of the common reasons people come to see us:

Stop Smoking

When smokers try to stop with other methods than hypnosis they suffer misery and depression caused by the feeling that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch. The beauty of hypnosis, and the way we use hypnosis in particular, is that it removes this feeling of deprivation. All that you have to do is sit back in a nice comfortable chair, and relax. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Lose Weight

A number of studies indicate that hypnosis combined with a behavioral weight management program contributes significantly to weight loss. Want to stop going round in circles trying to break old habits? The reason hypnosis – including HYPNOBAND – is such a powerful tool for weight loss is it’s potential to help you build new healthy habits. This is ideal for easy, natural weight loss.

Conquer Fears

Since hypnosis is the most direct way into the subconscious, it stands to reason that it can become the instrument of disarming irrational fears. And, as a life-affecting fear like this can develop in seconds, then it should be no surprise that if we can access the subconscious mind then we can remove the phobia as quickly as it arose.

Pain Control

It is a little known fact that hypnosis is very effective in relieving and controlling pain. In fact, it is so effective that the use of hypnosis to manage pain must be approached with extreme caution. Pain should never be treated for its own sake, but if the underlying cause is known and your doctor gives permission, hypnosis can be very effective in relieving pain.

Did you know that 75% to 90% of all doctor’s office visits are for illnesses related to stress? Yet, people who respond well to stress and know how to prevent unnecessary anxiety are typically peak performers. Hypnosis can be used to help you to more effectively find and explore the reasons behind why you react in certain ways in certain situations.

Hypnotherapy has proved wonderfully helpful in dealing with psychosomatic sexual problems-impotence, frigidity, etc.-and in enhancing self-esteem and confidence where necessary. The development of a positive self-image is always an important factor in adjusting to the needs and desires of partners and achieving the ultimate in relationship security.

Why Choose Hypnosis Northampton?
At Hypnosis Northampton we appreciate that not everyone is as excited by Hypnotherapy as we are. You may not care about the history of Hypnosis, the scientific research surrounding it, or the different schools of hypnotherapy. You just want to know if it works.

Well, the good news is Yes, it does! We have seen clients with issues ranging from insomnia to sexual dysfunction and nail-biting to panic attacks. We have seen hypnosis turn people’s lives around time and time again.

Our style of hypnosis is non-invasive and completely non-threatening. We have yet to meet someone who does not find it an enjoyable experience to go through.

So, If you are looking for a respectful approach to hypnosis, that takes you seriously and achieves results, you’ve come to the right place – Hypnosis Northampton!

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is not as mysterious or magical as people often make it out to be. It is simply a case of learning to use your mind in different ways.

For example, if you are queuing for a Roller-Coaster, you may be feeling all kinds of sensations including fear, excitement, curiosity, and anticipation. Unless, you have a genuine phobia of fairground rides, it is likely that you experience all of them as excitement. So, you get on the ride and have the time of your life. However, when you see that spider in the corner of your bedroom you experience all of the same sensations in the blink of an eye, interpret it as fear and run for your life! In this scenario, you could use Hypnosis to allow you to access that excited state of mind – and thereby re-frame your experience as excitement – at times when you might previously have been overcome by fear.

If that definition leaves you wanting more, feel free to browse the rest of the site where this question is asked and answered a number of different ways. Or, you might just want to make do with the definition provided by The General Hypnotherapy Register: ‘Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by (although not exclusively) mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind.’

Meet your Hypnotist

You can learn more about me here, but here are some snippets to satisfy your curiosity: I have worked in Spiritual & Personal development for around 25 years, in a variety of settings. Much of that time was spent doing pro bono work with charities, faith groups and fragile communities.

In recent years, my hypnosis and therapy work has taken on a flavour of its own. This has been influenced by experience with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am the creator of the highly acclaimed Therapeutic Inductions approach to hypnotic change and developer of ‘Brief Hypnosis’. However, I could never forget the debt I owe to those who taught me in the early years of my adventures with hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Stephen Brooks, the worlds’ premier Ericksonian and Indirect Hypnotist has been my primary teacher. I have also been taught by Jonathan Chase, who is more direct, yet no less influential or renowned.

How Can Hypnosis Help You?
Hypnosis has helped so many issues, that the list would appear to be almost limitless. However, the most common issues we treat come under what we like to call The 6 S’s.

  1. Smoking
  2. Slimming / Weight
  3. Stress & Anxiety
  4. Spiders / phobias
  5. Sex & Relationships
  6. Sleep
Add “Self-esteem” and you have a typical working week for a good hypnotist!
Will you Treat my Condition?

Hypnosis is used to treat a fair number of issues. A detailed list can be seen here. However, there are a number of factors that may influence whether we can or cannot work with you.

If you are currently being treated by your GP for a medical condition, we would ask you to have your doctor sign a medical release form before starting hypnosis with you. Similarly, if you are under treatment for a substance addiction, we would ask you to ask your doctor or substance abuse worker sign a release.

Please be aware that if you have a condition such as depression, we do not directly work on the depression itself. This is because we work with people, not diagnoses. Instead, we would look at your symptoms and work with you to find relief from them.

In the same way, although we love working with autistic people, we do not work to treat autism itself. This is because autism is not something to be fixed, but simply the way many of our brains work. (Think of it as an operating system in a computer.)

Choosing your Hypnotist
When it comes to selecting a hypnotist, you can sometimes find yourself spoilt for choice. Here are some of the reasons that you might want to choose to work with Graham Old:
  • He trained with Stephen Brooks, the world’s leading authority on indirect hypnosis
  • He is one of the few hypnotists in the area skilled and experienced in the use of solution-focused hypnosis
  • He is a sought-after speaker and trainer on hypnosis, solution-focused therapy and acceptance
  • He built and maintains one of the most visited hypnosis sites on the web – howtodoinductions.com
  • He is a popular and successful author in the area of hypnosis and hypnotherapy
  • He has been using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy for close to 20 years with children, couples and families.
  • He is proud to work with a wide-range of neurodivergent clients, even before such terms found widespread usage!

And, of course. there is also the long list of satisfied customers, a brief example of which can be seen in our testimonials!

Will I Cluck like a Chicken / Lose Control?
Only if, for some reason, you particularly want to!

The way we conduct our hypnosis sessions is all about giving you more control, not less. So, you will not find yourself doing anything during hypnosis that you would not do otherwise.

This is a powerful and uplifting experience. You will not lose control and you will not be humiliated in any way.
